Before Winter Wheat, a solitary man by the name of Fred Shepherd, called these 5 acres his home.
Fred lived in the board and batten house that is currently on the property. However, when he lived there he had no modern conveniences of electricity or running water. Fred enjoyed a quiet life among the pine trees and had a love of nature. He made paths through the pines, placing benches in several locations to sit and reflect.
He also planted hundreds of wild and domestic flowers and cared for this oasis, which provided him with a retreat from the noise of society.
Today Winter Wheat still offers a retreat for visitors. It is an oasis in a busy world that perhaps Fred would be proud of.
